The Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for the Progress of Humankind (FPH) is a Swiss foundation that makes grants to civil society movements and organisations to support their actions in favour of a social and ecological transition.
Budget 2018-2020: 780 000 €
Given the amplitude of the transition and the considerable effort required to adapt, both decision-makers and populations are showing little enthusiasm or are frankly reluctant to act. The excuse offered for their inaction is often the absence of proof or—even more frequently—the absence of perspectives. Thus there is a vital need for both convincing proof of the mechanisms that have caused the current crises, and solutions that can be implemented to resolve them. Background books are powerful tools for crystalizing debate and changing public opinion, and books in general make excellent terrains on which to fight for ideas and ideals.
With this in mind, FPH has set up its own publishing house. Editions Charles Léopold Mayer publishes and diffuses essays that it feels make a contribution to the debate. Books are always published in association with an advocacy project that is either in the proposal phase or already in progress.
