The Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for the Progress of Humankind (FPH) is a Swiss foundation that makes grants to civil society movements and organisations to support their actions in favour of a social and ecological transition.
Budget 2018-2020: 200 000 €
Whether they work for corporations, government institutions or associations, engineers play a vital role in the organization of our societies. They are like a cog that transmits movement in two directions--from base to summit and summit to base, putting them in a special position of responsibility. Thus there is significant tension between engineers who hide behind the neutrality of their skills (be these skills technical, legal or managerial) and those who recognise the responsibility they have to society. The latter organise their action around three poles: initial or continuing education and training, the organisation of managers in responsible corporations and development of a legal framework within which to exercise their responsibility.
The foundation supports organisations of responsible engineers who focus on the development of ethical training and advocate for a legal framework to support managers’ exercise of their social responsibility.
