The Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for the Progress of Humankind (FPH) is a Swiss foundation that makes grants to civil society movements and organisations to support their actions in favour of a social and ecological transition.
Budget 2018-2020: 480 000 €
The diversity of seeds--domestic biodiversity--is an essential factor in guaranteeing a healthy food supply, developing crops that can withstand the effects of climate change and preventing multinational seed companies from taking over the phytosphere to use for their own ends. Making sure domestic biodiversity is preserved and redeployed--by promoting farmer seeds and pooled management of plant biodiversity--is vital for a transition to a sustainable agriculture.
The foundation supports civil society and producers’ groups that advocate for changes in the legislative framework in France and Europe, to recognize pooled management. It also supports the development of participative selection.
