The Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for the Progress of Humankind (FPH) is a Swiss foundation that makes grants to civil society movements and organisations to support their actions in favour of a social and ecological transition.
Budget 2018-2020: 615 000 €
Since the transition to ecological societies is by nature a global phenomenon, it includes many actors, whether they work on practical solutions on the local level, or advocate on the national level for the removal of institutional and legislative obstacles. Helping these actors converge—thus avoiding duplication of efforts and increasing their capacity for action—represents a real opportunity and may even be a necessity.
Consequently, the foundation contributes to the convergence of transition movements, combining a geographic approach (France, French-speaking areas of Belgium and Switzerland - and the European transnational scale) with various operating modes: convergence of ‘transition makers’ to change scale, political convergence to form new strategic coalitions, intellectual convergence to re-examine systemic change.
