La Fondation Charles Léopold Mayer pour le Progrès de l’Homme (FPH) est une fondation suisse qui soutient par ses dons des mouvements et des organisations de la société civile dans leurs actions de plaidoyer en faveur d’une transition sociale et écologique.
Founded in 1972 in Versailles in France, IFOAM - Organics International is the only international umbrella organization for the organic world, uniting a diverse range of stakeholders contributing to the organic vision. In the 47 years of its existence, IFOAM – Organics International has developed from an ad hoc group to a highly professional institution through various stages of development. Having facilitated the building of a dynamic global organic movement and sector with active institutions and local and global organic value chains, IFOAM – Organics International is recognized and appreciated as the global organic agriculture umbrella, representing over 800 affiliates in more than 120 countries.
According to IFOAM, Organic agriculture approaches and methods could provide a significant contribution towards to enabling a widespread uptake of truly sustainable farming systems, value chains and consumption based on the principles of health, ecology, fairness and care. IFOAM simultaneously works on three main drivers to trigger the adoption of the principles of organic agriculture: 1. Enhance know-how of producers, value chain actors, sector leaders and service providers in order to increase supply; 2. Raise consumer awareness and motivate stakeholders to engage in order to enhance demand; 3. Contribute to a policy environment that is conducive to truly sustainable production and consumption, by supporting national and international policy development.
IFOAM – Organics International wants to make progress towards its vision of broad adoption of truly sustainable agriculture, value chains and consumption, in line with the principles of organic agriculture, by growing the organic sector while making it more sustainable, and at the same time inspire mainstream agriculture.
IFOAM – Organics International helds it General Assembly every three years, in connection with the World Organic Congress. Its members elect the World Board, who shape the direction of their work and appoint Affiliates to committees, working groups and task forces on topics like the development of standards or the facilitation of Organic Agriculture in developing countries. Its member organizations have also establish alliances based on regional priorities (Regional Bodies : Asia, EU, North-and SouthAmerica, Southern Africa but also IFOAM-Iran, Japan, …) and sector-specific priorities (Sector Platforms : aquaculture, Animal husbandry alliance, seeds and breeds, research, apuculture, INOFO). INOFO – the Inter-continental Network of Organic Farmers Organizations was found in 2008 by different Organic Farmers Organizations around the globe as an autonomous and unformal network aiming at becoming the voice of organic farmers globally. INOFO today is a lively network built on a team of 16 active conveners representing 7 regions (Latin America & Caribbean, West Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, South Asia, South-East Asia, Europe). INOFO representatives are elected by Farmer Organizations during the General Assembly and therefore carry the farmer mandates to strengthen the global voice of the organic community on farming issues worldwide.
